The State Vegetation Type Map (SVTM) 1750 layer models the landscape as it was before European clearing at 5-metre resolution, classified through a three-level hierarchy: Vegetation Formation, Vegetation Class, and — at the finest level — Plant Community Type (PCT).
There are more than 1,800 approved Plant Community Types in the NSW master list. When you search, we return the PCT at your point together with its Class and Formation, so you can see both the specific community and the broader group it sits within.
Pre-clearing mapping is complete for eastern NSW and far western NSW. Central NSW is still being mapped. If your address falls in that gap — or over water — we don't show an empty result; we fall back to the national NVIS pre-1750 layer and tell you so.
Each PCT links to condition benchmarks and characteristic species in the NSW BioNet Vegetation Classification. We're turning those into practical indigenous planting lists community by community — search your address and leave your email to get yours when it lands.
